Hans Wolfgang Boehm

Hans Wolfgang Boehm, of the Point Place/Shoreland Community, passed away at Hospice of Northwest Ohio-Perrysburg Center on January 13, 2014, after a 10 year fight with Lymphoma.  He was born in Nuremburg Germany on April 24, 1940, to Andreas and Anna Boehm.  With the guidance of his sister, brother-in-law and Harry and Barbara Schroeder, Hans immigrated to the U.S. and settled in Toledo in 1959.  Hans developed instant friendships among other German immigrants.  He met his wife, Marion, thru the German clubs and they were married on September 30, 1961.

Hans began his employment career at Ohio Tool then settled in at L.O.F for 35 years, retiring on December 31, 1999.  Hans celebrated his German heritage by being an active member of the German-American Festival Society.  Hans was a longtime co-chairman at Bar #5 at the German-American Festival.  He loved interacting with festival patrons.  Hans was a member of the G.B.U., Bavarian Sports Club and the Stammtisch.  He enjoyed tasty lunches and spirited conversation with his friends on a monthly basis.

Hans was known for keeping his yard and automobiles in meticulous condition.  He was fascinated by planes and automobiles.  Hans and his family vacationed in Germany numerous times over the years.  He and his wife traveled to other European countries as well as many U.S. destinations.  Hans spirit will live on in his daughter’s love of travel and his son’s dedicated work ethic.

Hans enjoyed the company of his canine companions and grand dogs.  Other interests included listening to German folk music and watching German soccer league games on Dish network.  His friends could always count on him for a ride to Detroit Metro airport when they traveled.


Hans is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Marion; daughter, Kathryn (Rick) Ehlers and son, Thomas Boehm; canine companion, Rascal; sister, Esther Horlamus; sister-in-law, Barbara (Michael) Narges; nephew, Bernd (Georgette) Horlamus; niece, Christy (Matt) Rowley; nephew, Eric (Lisa) Narges; great-nieces, Averi, Emma and Abby; great-nephews, Blake, Austin, Grant, Nicholas and Aiden, who he was very proud to have shared a birthday with; cousin  and a good friend, Wolfgang Engelbrecht.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Karl Horlamus.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel on Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 2-8 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m.  Burial will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo Humane Society or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
