Gordon P. Sprague, age 72, of Oregon, Ohio passed away on Monday November 12, 2012 at Heartland of Oregon. He was born on July 7, 1940 to Alvin and Annie (Riehm) Sprague and was a 1958 graduate of Clay High School. While in high school, Gordon worked alongside his sister at Sprague’s Farm Market and Greenhouse funding their college expenses. In 1966, Gordon graduated from Toledo University and began his 38 year career in the elevator industry, retiring with Toledo Elevator in 2004. He had a few elevator patents and was a member of the IEEE and the IUEC Local 44. Gordon was an O.S.U. fan and a gifted mechanic, repair man and enjoyed working on cars and tractors.
Gordon is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Sharon (Ensign) Sprague; children, Jeffery Sprague, Michael Sprague and Steven (Rebecca) Sprague; grandchildren, Mason, Hannah, Haylee and Miles Sprague; brother, Franklin Sprague; sister, Beverly Gillaspie; special cousin, Dave Riehm; nephew, Bobby Arquette; niece, Kadie Senesi; and K9 companion, Jake. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Annie Armenta and Evelyn Bartlett; and nephew, Dr. Matthew Arquette.
Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Friday, November 16, 2012 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Christ United Methodist Church, 5757 Starr Avenue, Oregon, Ohio 43616, with the family meeting guests one hour prior. Burial will follow at Fort Meigs Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Christ United Methodist Church.
