Gilbert Berry

September 15, 1930 — April 5, 2016

Gilbert Berry, 85, of Northwood, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Mercy-St. Charles Hospital. He was born in Toledo on September 15, 1930 to Harrison and Clara (Henninger) Berry. Gilbert served our country in the U.S. Army, during the Korean War.  He continued on in the Army Reserves, as a Green Beret, after serving multiple tours. Gilbert worked as a Glass Handler at L.O.F. for 35 years, retiring in 1991.  He was a life-time member of the Northwood V.F.W. Post # 2984, American Legion Post # 646, Korean War Veterans Association-N.W.O. Chapter #131 and the 187th Airborne R.C.T. Association. In his spare time, Gilbert enjoyed fishing and golfing, but enjoyed his family the most.

He is survived by his sons, Darcy and Harold Berry; grandson, Joel (Dana) Berry; great-grandchildren, Kamille and Kaleb “K.J.” Berry; brother, Henry (Lois) Berry, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Ruth, Katherine, Hermine, Otto, Harold, Joe, Billy; companion, Ernestine Hatfield and mother of his children, Nancy Berry.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd., Oregon, on Sunday, April 10, 2016 from 2-8 p.m.  Funeral services will be held on Monday in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
