Gerald E. “Jerry” Vondran, age 73, of Oregon, OH passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014. He was born October 18, 1940 in Wauseon, OH to Ira E. and Deloris (Bechstein) Vondran. Jerry was a 1958 graduate of Clay High School and married Judith St. John on April 15, 1961. He worked as a bricklayer from 1966 until 2003 and was a member of Local 46, Local 3 and the International Bricklayer’s Union. Jerry also served on the Penta County Vocational Advisory Committee for cement trades.
Jerry was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church where he served as Past President of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and was a greeter and usher at church. He was very fond of his family and was always attending sporting events of the kids and grandkids. Jerry was an avid Ohio State fan and loved to bowl in his spare time.
He is survived by his loving wife, Judith Vondran; children, Christine (Bill) Slusser, Gregory (Adrianne) Vondran, Geralyn (Jim) Bomia, Sheila (Bryan) Pfeiffer and Alan Vondran; 15 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Ira “Butch” (Sue) Vondran and sister-in-law, Kathy Vondran. He was preceded in death by parents and brother, Robert Vondran.
Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Friday, May 16, 2014 from 2 - 8 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 212 N. Stadium Rd. where family will greet friends one hour prior to the Mass. Burial will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Vincent DePaul-St. Ignatius Council or St. Ignatius Building Fund.
