Gean Peter Grosschedl

August 8, 1946 — September 10, 2024

Gean Peter Grosschedl, 78, of Toledo, Ohio passed away on September 10, 2024 surrounded by family after a short, but courageous battle with leukemia.  He was born in Toledo, Ohio to his parents, Andrew and Jeanne (Valleé) Grosschedl on August 8, 1946.  He grew up in Oregon, Ohio, graduating from Clay High School with the class of 1964.  Soon after graduation, Gean enlisted in the United States Air Force and was deployed to South Korea, Thailand, and Guam, finishing his service at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.  After discharge from the Air Force, he was employed with the City of Toledo in the Water Reclamation Division as a plant operator, supervisor and facilities mechanic. He was a devoted husband to his high school sweetheart, Linda (Lazur) Grosschedl, who celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in July, and was a loving and loyal son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend. He was a member of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church in Oregon, and was a volunteer BINGO caller for many years.

Gean was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing trips in his boat on Lake Erie with family and friends, as well as trips to fishing outposts in Canada. He also enjoyed pheasant hunting trips with his labradoodle, Emma, and competed in trap, skeet and sporting clay tournaments throughout the area. He was an active member of the Monroe County Rod and Gun Club, Southside Sportsman’s Club, National Skeet Shooting Association and American Trap Association. He was passionate about his politics, bourbon and sports teams, including THE Ohio State University Buckeyes. Hosting cookouts, grilling and carrying on the Hungarian tradition of cooking “Hunky Turkey” was something Gean will be remembered by.  Traveling with his wife Linda to various states was another thing that Gean often did.

Gean is survived by his wife Linda; mother, Jeanne; sister, Marie Jane Grosschedl; and sons, Matthew Grosschedl and his wife Michelle Beaton, Daniel Grosschedl and his wife Kristen.  He was a proud grandfather to Liam, Brenna, Maeve, Rielly and Drew. He was preceded in death by his son David; father Andrew; uncles, Paul and Herman Grosschedl; aunt, Dorthy Grosschedl; sister, Georgette Fenton; and brother, Michael Grosschedl.

Donations in Gean’s memory can be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or to St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church in Oregon, Ohio.  A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Road in Oregon, Ohio 10:00 am-12:00 pm, with a brief service to follow at 12:00 p.m.
