Gary A. Caputo, 49, of Northwood, passed away surrounded by family and close friends on Monday, August 12, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 27, 1963, in Toledo to John and Barbara (Nijakowski) Caputo and was a 1981 graduate of Waite High School. Since the age of 6, Gary played hockey. He played travel hockey with TOYHA, Whitmer and Waite and then later coached hockey with TOYHA for 20 years.

Gary was a plater with Whitaker Finishing and then worked in waste water recycling with First Solar. He loved sports, especially the Detroit Red Wings, Tigers and Lions. In his spare time he enjoyed going to casinos, camping, fishing and traveling, with his most recent trip this July to Jamaica with family members. He loved dining out and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife, Laura (Amsler) Caputo; son, Chad Caputo; beloved dog, Roo; father, John; brother, Randy (Nadine) Caputo; sister, Donna (Rick) Collins; in-laws, Larry and Sharon Amsler; many dear nieces and nephews and their families; godchildren, Jacob Caputo and Tanner Langlois and many close lifelong friends with a special thanks to Tim Langlois. Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara.

Family and friends may visit from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, in the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S Wynn Rd., Oregon, where the funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. Burial will follow at Lake Township Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Maumee Bay Veterinary Hospital. The family wishes to thank Sue and the nurses at St. Charles Cancer Center and the staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg Center for their compassion and care shown to Gary.
