Gary Francis Benedict

Gary Francis Benedict, 65, of Toledo, OH, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2021. He was born October 17, 1955 in Toledo, OH to Lawrence J. and Betty Jane (Fuzessy) Benedict. Gary owned his own nail salon and was a successful business owner. He overcame many odds during his life and lived life with a smile and an adventurous heart. Gary had fought in the Toledo Strongman Competition when he was younger, even taking second place in a tournament. He was skilled at anything he put his mind to, renovating the former Point Place fire station into his business, Summit Street Station. Gary enjoyed golf, but most of all, he cherished the time he spent with his family and friends.

Gary is survived by his daughter, Brenna Benedict; his father, Lawrence Benedict; his siblings, Christine (Gary Kinney) Harris, Larry “Mugsy” Benedict, and Kathleen (Michael) Schmidt; many nieces and nephews; his beloved dog, Lefty; and his dear friend and business partner, Heather Mandzik. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jane, and his daughter, Chelsea.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 from 11:00 a.m until 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Gary will be laid to rest at St. Ignatius Cemetery. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
