Franklin C. Kelly, age 80, formerly of Toledo passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He was born on January 7, 1934 in Toledo to Joseph and Rose (Taverna) Kelly and was a graduate of Waite High School. Franklin served our country in the U.S. Navy and worked as a driver for Wonder Bread (Continental Baking) for 20 years. He then worked as a custodian for Cardinal Stritch where he was a member of the school board and the athletic boosters. He was a devout member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church where he served in various capacities including an Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Holy Name Society, festival co-chairman, Deanery Drive, PAL retreats and a gym teacher for the school. In his spare time, he enjoyed singing, dancing, feeding the birds and most of all watching OSU sports.
He is survived by his children: Kevin, Karen (John) McClanahan, Kristen Kelly and Michael (Kathy) Kelly; grandchildren: Patti, Kyle, Tyler and Drew Kelly; siblings, Stewart Kelly, Joyce (Bob) Lyons, Nancy (Eugene) Dubuc; sister-in-law, Dolores Kelly and special family friends, Karen Husen, Randy Schuster and Sara Roller. Franklin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia; siblings, Robert Kelly, Colleen Porter and Donald Kelly and grandson, Nicholas Kelly.
Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd. in Oregon on Monday, May 12, 2014 from 2-8 pm. and continue after 9 a.m. on Tuesday at Epiphany of the Lord Parish - St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church where Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 am. Burial will follow at Lake Twp. Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
