Francis L. (Butch) Hofbauer

Francis L. “Butch” Hofbauer age 83 of Toledo, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, peacefully at home. Butch was born to Elmer and Theresa (Stockmaster) Hofbauer on October 1, 1940. He was a 1959 graduate of Clay High School where he played football, wrestled, and ran track. Butch was inducted into the Clay High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992. He worked for Chrysler at the GM Powertrain and was a member of the UAW. After he retired, he worked in Maintenance for the Little Sisters of the Poor, Arbors of Oregon, and Ashland Manor. After his second retirement, he was a transport driver for Matthews Ford and Prescription Supply before his third and final retirement.  Butch was a member of Epiphany-St Stephen Catholic Church and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus at St. Jerome Catholic Church. In his “free time” he enjoyed sports, fishing, his pets, and helping others.

Butch is survived by his wife Velma; children Pamela Lawson, Dean and Ashley Hofbauer, and Christopher and Ashley Hofbauer; step-children Christina Bauman and Allen Bauman; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sisters Beatrice Kovacs and Rosemarie (Roy) Scherzer. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Danielle Barnette, and brother and sister-in-law Dale and Pat Hofbauer.

A visitation will be held at Freck Funeral Chapel 1155 S Wynn Rd in Oregon on Friday, March 22, 2024 from 5 until 9 p.m. The Knights of Columbus will lead a Rosary at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Epiphany of Our Lord -St Stephen 1880 Genesee in Toledo on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 1030 a.m. where the family will receive friends one hour before Mass. Burial will be private at St. Ignatius Cemetery. Memorial contributions are appreciated to Heartland Hospice, Davita-Northwood, or the American Heart Association.
