Francis Raymond “Frank” Grosjean passed away peacefully at Hospice of Northwest Ohio on Thursday, January 18, 2018.  He was born on December 3, 1928 to Nicholas and Della (Bihl) Grosjean in Curtice, Ohio.  He graduated from Clay High School in 1946 and went to work at National Supply Company for a short period of time.  He began employment with Libbey Owens Ford Glass Company on January 14, 1947 and retired from there after 42 years of service.  He married Virginia Marjorie Mercer on November 4, 1950 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church (Toledo, OH).  He was drafted into the U.S. Army on November 10, 1950 and served until October 1952 after being stationed at Okinawa during the Korean War.  He was a proud father of two daughters, Debra (1953) and Cynthia (1957).

He served as vice-president of the Northwood Board of Education where he had the honor of presenting both daughters their high school diplomas.  He also was a member of Northwood Athletic Boosters, Northwood Music Boosters and Northwood Recreation Board for all of which he served various leadership roles.  Frank participated in making calls to collect money for the March of Dimes.  He was a lifetime member of the Christ Dunberger American Legion Post #537, where he served as the bugler for the Color Guard.  He also ran the Senior Euchre Days there for many years.  He was a lifetime and a charter member of the Northwood V.F.W Post #2584, and then Toledo V.F.W. Post #2510.  He was an avid Detroit Tigers baseball fan who never stopped believing in his team.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Donald and Ruth Mercer; brothers, Charles (Ruth), Cyril (Eleanor), Bernard (Susanne); and sisters, Dolores (Wayne) Wicks, Cecelia (Paul) Bubenko, Virginia (Harold) Henningsen; and brother-in-law, James Mercer; sisters-in-law, Barbara Mercer and Helene Mercer; and several nieces and nephews.  He is survived by his wife, Virginia Grosjean; daughters, Debra (Jeffrey) Eversman and Cynthia (Eric) Johnson; grandchildren, Sara Eversman (fiancé Louis Keiser), Kurt (Erin) Eversman, Michael (Sarah) Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson and Katherine (Zachary) Finkbiner and great-grandchildren, Emma and Hannah Eversman.  Also surviving are his sister, Beatrice Schiffer; brother-in-law, Donald Mercer and many nieces and nephews.

Francis was a kind, loving and hard working man who was loved by his family, his friends and his community.  He was honored to be active in the lives of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He never asked for any recognition or to be in the spot light-he just wanted to be a good person and do what he could to make this a better world for all but especially for his family.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Sunday, January 21, 2018, from 2-8 p.m. where members of Christ Dunberger American Legion will have services at 7 p.m.  Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Lake Twp. Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the family for distribution amongst his favorite organizations.
