Eugene Raymond Prater

Eugene “Geneo” Prater, 54, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 8, 2024. He was an adored father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to all who knew him.

Geneo was born on May 17, 1970 in Toledo, Ohio to Sharon Strawman. He attended and graduated from Waite High School in 1989 and most recently worked for Walgreens Distribution Center in Perrysburg, Ohio for 14 years.

Geneo was an avid fan of THE Ohio State Buckeyes and The Dallas Cowboys and was often found watching football games on Saturday and Sunday with family and friends.  You also would find him cheering on his favorite people from the stands, the sidelines, or in the audience, always being their loudest cheering section. The time Geneo spent laughing, cracking jokes, singing, being with his favorite dogs, and being with family and friends are what he valued most in his life.

Geneo will be remembered as a remarkable man who loved unconditionally and loudly, lived unapologetically, and gave to everyone around him.  His gentle and contagious smile, his big personality, the loving nicknames he gave to those he loved, the advice and encouragement he gave to those who mattered most to him, his loyalty to family and friends, and his selfless acts of kindness will always be Geneo’s legacy.

Left to mourn his loss, but cherish his memory, are beloved son and daughter-in law, Dustin and Rebecca Prater of Kernersville, North Carolina, grandchildren, Declan, Remilynn, Dominic, Grayson, and Harper, siblings, Lori Blazer of White Pine, Tennessee, Cheryl (Chris) Smith of Oregon, Ohio, Yvonne (Bill) Pearson of Toledo, Ohio, and Mike (Alishia) Delamotte of Rising Sun, Ohio, nephews Chris (Heather, Brooklynn, and Owen) Smith of Oregon, Ohio, Leighlynn and Rylan Delamotte of Rising Sun, Ohio, nieces Shelby (Farmer, Oakley, and Easton) Farmer of Oregon, Ohio, Tiffiney (Chris) Bolton, Ashley (Mitchell) Smith, and Amanda (Pete) Johnson all of Tennessee and his second family, Brian, Tracy and Grace Hovest of Bowling Green, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Strawman.

Family and friends may visit at Freck Funeral Chapel , 1155 S. Wynn Rd., Oregon, Ohio on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral chapel on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Restlawn Memorial Park.
