Eugene "Gene" Horvath

Eugene R. Horvath, age 88, of Oregon, Ohio passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Toledo Center.  He was born on August 29, 1935 in Toledo, Ohio to Charles and Mary (Ostofi) Horvath.  Gene was a 1954 graduate of Macomber High School and worked as an electrician for Libbey Owens Ford for 37 years, retiring in 1991.  Gene also served as a volunteer fireman for the City of Oregon for 32 years, where he retired as a Captain.  He was devoted to his family, church, and community.  Eugene was a life-long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he served as Eucharistic Minister and a member of the maintenance committee.  Gene was also a member of the K of C-Mother Teresa Council 14344.  He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan and enjoyed spending time camping and going to the grandkids sporting events.  Gene was very giving to his family and community.  He will be dearly missed.

Eugene is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Carole (Cunningham); children, Diana (Edward) Follett, Barbara (Paul) Martin, Anita (David) Wlodarz, and Marianne (Jeff) McQuillin; grandchildren, Chelsea (Stephen) Kertesz, Haylee Barva, Michael Barva, Tyler Horvath, Brianna (Brian) Ellithorpe, Alyssa (Jordan) Vanderpool, Austin (Danielle Huffaker) Wlodarz, and Cassidy (Jeffrey) Dunsmore; great-grandchildren, Weston and Emma Jeanne Ellithorpe and Lainey Vanderpool; and his brother, George (Sharon) Horvath.  He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael; and sister, Rosann Winters.

Private burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Knights of Columbus or the Oregon Fire Department.
