Esther Mae (Heintschel) Hornstein

October 11, 1932 — February 8, 2017

Esther M. Hornstein, 84, of Oregon, passed away at her home on Wednesday, February 8, 2017. She was born in Toledo on October 11, 1932 to Leo and Pearl (Mominee) Heintschel and married Theodore Hornstein on August 3, 1957. She loved cooking and baking for her family and catered many events for family and friends. For over 14 years, Esther worked for Oregon City Schools as a cook. After retirement, she enjoyed staying active with the Oregon Senior Center and playing bingo.

She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Ted; children, William Fredrickson (Deb Bodi), Sandra Henderson, Randy (Dianna) Hornstein, Greg (Sue) Hornstein, Ann Hornstein (Randy Bumbera) and Marcia Hornstein; grandchildren, Jennell, Dana, Sonny, Kim, Nicole, Crystal, Robin, Justin, David, Heather, Shayne (Katie), Randee (Ryan), Casidy and Ryleah; nineteen great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Ray (Marilyn) and Buster (Sandy) and sisters, Betty (Rudy), Delores, Janet (Jim), Marge (Bill) and Theresa along with many dear brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Esther was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda; first husband, William; brother, William (Flo) Heintschel and sisters, Jean Rettenberger and Carol Heintschel.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Sunday, February 12, 2017 from 2-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday in the funeral home with the family to receive friends one hour prior. Burial will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or the Alzheimer’s Association. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Hospice of Northwest Ohio especially Esther’s nurse, Beth and aide, Lisa for their compassion and care shown to their mom.
