Ernest Nicholas Zam

March 8, 1937 — April 16, 2021

Ernest Nicholas Zam, age 84, of Oregon passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday, April 16, 2021. Ernest was born to Nicholas and Verna (Mitro) Zam on March 8, 1937, in Toledo, Ohio.

He was a 1955 graduate of Macomber High School. He owned Zam Manufacturing machine shop until his retirement. He was a longtime member of RC Flyers Club and Lyman Boat Owners Association. He was a talented woodworker who spent his spare time building model boats and planes, as well as furniture, clocks, and anything else that he thought was a challenge or his family requested. He was an avid University of Michigan fan and loved watching football and basketball. Anyone who knew him appreciated his wonderful sense of humor, as he always enjoyed making everyone laugh.

Ernest is survived by his wife, Evelyn; three daughters, Karen (Tom) Gahan and Susan (Calvin) Nichols; three step-children, David (Janeice) Corwin, Michele Blake, Mary Kaye Corwin; five grandchildren, Lauren, Abby, Andrea, Sarah, Ryan; five step-grandchildren, Daniel (Nicole), Michael, Taylor, Delmicca, and Levi. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, and his first wife of 57 years, Carol.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, from 10 to 1 p.m., with a funeral service following at 1 p.m. A private burial will take place at St. Ignatius Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Heartland Hospice.
