Elodie Alice Eckenrode

Elodie (Verstraete) Eckenrode age 86 of Oregon passed away on February 28, 2024. She was born on May 11, 1937 to Violet and Frank Verstraete. Elodie married her high school sweetheart Lawrence Eckenrode and lived a loving life together for 70 years. She worked at Jobst as a seamstress till she retired. Elodie’s passion was sewing, making quilts for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, hats for cancer patients, and heart pillows for survivors of breast cancer. She loved cooking and baking including decorating and baking cakes from scratch. Elodie loved the outdoors, she enjoyed gardening and held the belief you could never feed the birds and squirrels enough.

Elodie was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence; children Durk Eckenrode and Vanessa Roach; parents Violet Byers, Frank Verstraete, step-father William Byers; grandson Scott Lee Eckenrode; and siblings Arthur Verstraete, Merlyn Byers, Henry Byers, and Anna Byers. She is survived by her children Timothy (Christine) Eckenrode, Mark (Deborah) Eckenrode, Matthew Eckenrode, Michael (Denise Alexander) Eckenrode, Lisa (Brian) Eckenrode-Tidwell and daughter-in-law Wendy Eckenrode; 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren; brother Milyn (Nancy) Byers.

A visitation will be held at Freck Funeral Chapel 1155 S Wynn Rd in Oregon on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, from 2 until 8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ignatius Catholic Church 212 N. Stadium Rd in Oregon at 11 a.m. Wednesday where the family will receive friends one hour prior to Mass. Burial will be private for the family at Restlawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions are appreciated to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
