Edward “Ed” Vuyk of Oregon, OH died at age 64 at his home surrounded by his family, on Monday, April 1, 2013. He was born in Boskoop, Holland on Febuary 13, 1949 to Aart and Neeltje (Booy) Vuyk. Ed moved to the U. S. at age 3 and grew up in Indiana, PA. He was a salesman for many years. Ed was an avid boater, water skier and volleyball player. He was a loving and devoted father who enjoyed teaching his daughters how to water ski on Black Lake during family vacations and coaching their softball and basketball teams.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Pieter, Willem and Aart and sister, Marian (Schumacher). He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Elaine (Kamann) Vuyk; daughters, Sarah and Laura; sister, Maria “Mieke” (Cudhea); sisters and brothers in-law; nieces; nephews; relatives, friends and devoted caregivers, Emily Matheny and Amy Barraclough who took such wonderful care of Ed in his last 4 years at home.
Friends and family may visit from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S Wynn Rd., Oregon. A Rosary service will begin that night at 7 p.m. Prayers will begin at 9:15 a.m. on Friday and continue to Good Shepherd Catholic Church at 10 a.m. for the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Huntington Disease Society of America or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
