Edward R. Slates, age 83, passed away February 23, 2018 in Deer Park, Texas surrounded by family. Edward was born on May 31, 1934 to Ralph and Clara (DeShetler) Slates in Toledo, Ohio. He attended Toledo schools, graduating from Macomber High School in 1952. Following high school, he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Germany for three years. He worked for Romanoff Electric Motor Service, Sheffield, OH, for many years. He moved to Deer Park, Texas where he worked for and retired from Texas Electric Equipment Company. Edward enjoyed golf and bowling, crossword puzzles, word search, playing euchre, canasta, and bridge. He enjoyed taking trips with his siblings to casinos, and Amish country. Being a man of strong faith, he was active in his church St. Hyacinth, Deer Park, visiting the sick and elderly, often praying the rosary with those in nursing homes.

Ed is survived by his wife; Jean (Rieger), sisters; Donna Recknagel (Oregon, OH), Beatrice Lattuca (Adrian, MI), Katheryn Border (Rockford, MI), Delores Badas (Toledo, OH), children; Lou Ann Slates, Ralph Edward “Butch” (Belinda) Slates, Angela Slates, Carrie Cervantes, Ken Slates and Jeffry Slates; stepchildren; Debbie (Tim) Dottis, Kim (Terry) Griggs, Linda Leonard, Christine (Erick) Seman, and Betty Jo (Grady) Barnard. He is predeceased by his parents, sisters; Mary Lou Ulch, and Eleanor Thomas, children; Loretta Slates and Charles Slates, and stepchild; Jennifer Leonard. He also leaves behind 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

By his will and designation, Edward’s body was donated to medical science. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
