EDWARD  J.  “EDDIE”  GONZALES

Edward J. Gonzales, 64, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, August 22, 2014. He was born June 12, 1950 in Toledo to Frank and Ramona (Avalos) Gonzales and was married February 6, 1971 to Vivian F. Anaya. Eddie worked for LMHA as a housing inspector retiring in November 2012 after 26 years and served as Vice President of the local AFSCME Union 2916.

His work with LMHA opened his eyes to the great need in the inner city for investing in the youth of Toledo. He established the inner city Boy Scout Troop 51 of which he lead and mentored many youth. Due to his leadership and volunteerism was awarded the George Meany Award. He volunteered his time at Camp Miakonda, helping restore a cabin. He was an animal lover and passionate about many things in life: riding his BMW motorcycle and playing his Gibson guitar; but most of all spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Vivian; children, Victoria (Eddie) Riddle, Edward R. (Nikolle) Gonzales and Maria Gonzales; grandchildren, Chaney Hathaway, William Riddle, Kayleigh Riddle, Solanna Riddle and Layna Gonzales; siblings, Irene Hernandez, Helen Alonzo, Manuel (Sherrie) Gonzales, Anna Florez, Herlinda (Joe) Gutierez, Carmen (Martin) Menchaca, Ramona Barron, Esther Gonzales, Richard (Kim) Gonzales and Margaret (Joe) Gonzales and many dear nieces and nephews and K-9 pals, Chewy and Artie. Eddie was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Frank Gonzales.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel on Thursday, August 28, 2014 from 4-8 p.m. and on Friday from 2-8 with the Rosary being recited at 7 p.m. on Friday evening. Funeral services will begin with prayers in the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Saturday followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Toledo.   Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scouts of America-Erie Shores Chapter.
