Edna M. Engelhardt, age 85, passed away Friday, March 30, 2012, in Cape Coral, Florida. She was born in Toledo, Ohio, on May 19, 1926, to Roy and Margaret St. John. She lived most of her life in Jerusalem Township where she and her husband owned the Engelhardt Tree Nursery. Edna was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved everyone with a full heart, including the 33 foster children for whom she cared. She also worked at Little Sisters of the Poor as a nurse aide for 20 years. Her compassion knew no bounds. Edna loved gardening, her bunco club of 49 years, traveling, and especially children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul Engelhardt, sisters Betty Walper, Erma Rasmussen, and brother Robert St.John. Surviving are her children, Caroline (John) Bruggeman, Eileen (Randall) Bryan, William Engelhardt, Howard (Anita) Engelhardt, and Emil (Loretta) Engelhardt; sister Marilyn Poiry and brother LeRoy St. John, 9 grandchildren, and 12 great- grandchildren.
Friends and family may call at Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 South Wynn Road, Oregon, Ohio, on Friday, April 6, 2012, from 2-8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2012, at 10 am at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 212 N. Stadium Rd. Oregon, Ohio. Interment will follow immediately at St. Ignatius Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Edna’s name to the church or Little Sisters of the Poor. The family extends special thanks to Hope Hospice of N. Fort Myers, Florida, and the Reflections staff at The Windsor of Cape Coral for the wonderful care they provided.
