Edmund L. Bates, age 66, of Oak Harbor, passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at St. Charles Mercy Hospital. He was born on July 15, 1947 in Toledo, OH to Edmund L. and Viola (Yoster) Bates Sr. Butch worked as a Boilermaker with Local 85 for 32 years until retiring. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and his 1950 Ford “Breathless”. Butch was a member of Pheasants Forever and past president of Local 85. He loved his family and friends dearly and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his devoted wife, of 28 years, Carol Bates; children, Laurie (Jeff) Pelczarski, Joe (Jamie) Bates, Mike (Linda) Claussen, Christina (Andy) Adkinson, Eric (Angie) Claussen; 12 grandchildren and brother, John (Mary) Bates. Butch was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd. in Oregon on, Wednesday, May 28, 2014 from 2-8 pm. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carroll Township Fire Department or the Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
