DONNA  L.  CRANE

Donna L. Crane, age 78, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2014, at Orchard Villa Nursing Home surrounded by family. Born August 1, 1935, she was the daughter of Edwin R. and Lola A. (Hofbauer) Crane. Both of whom preceded her in death. A 1953 graduate of Clay High School, Donna was employed by Libbey-Owens-Ford for 44 years, retiring in 1998.

She was a parishioner at St. Ignatius Catholic Church and member of the St. Ignatius Altar Rosary Society. She served as treasurer for the local branch of the Loyal Christian Benefit Association and provided charitable support to St. Louis Helping Hands and Vail Meadows. Donna was president of Toledo Mercury’s Hockey Booster Club for several years and through this affiliation had the opportunity to meet Elvis Presley on his first visit to Toledo in 1956 at the Toledo Sports Arena.

She had a deep love for her family, especially the children and loved animals especially dogs and horses. After her father died in 1982, Donna could always be seen with her mother and her cocker spaniel dog. She loved to travel and vacationed throughout the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, Canada, Europe, Mexico, Costa Rica and the Caribbean.

Donna was well known by all who knew her for her baking skills, especially cakes and cookies. She and her lifelong friend Barbara Mercer baked wedding cakes for family, friends and others for many years.

Donna is survived by her loving friend, Geof Sigurdson and her daughter, Denise (Nick) Marvet; grandchildren, Dominic and Monica Marvet; brothers, James (Nancy) Crane of Northwood, Ohio, Thomas (Patricia) Crane of Columbus, Ohio and Daniel (Christine) Crane of Powell, Ohio; nieces, Deborah (Robert) Heilman, Tamara Eichenberg, Kelly (Craig) Wenclewicz, Courtney (Mike) Menche and Melissa (Tolga) Tomar; nephews, Keith (Lisa) Crane, Michael (Brea) Crane and Aaron (Kristie) Crane; great nieces, Danielle, Amanda and Rachael Heilman, Katelynn Eichenberg, Jessica Crane, Laken and Mia Wenclewicz, Lola Menche, Maya Tomar and Ava and Lily Crane; great-nephews, Robert James Heilman, Kirk Eichenberg, Roland Menche, Chase Crane, Baran Tomar and Bennett Crane; lifelong friend, Mary (McNulty) Hasenfratz and close working companion Delores “Toot” Moore.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon from 2-9 p.m. on Monday, August 4, 2014. Visitation will continue after 9 a.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home with Prayers beginning at 10:15 a.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church.  Burial will be in St. Ignatius Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands of St. Louis, Hospice of Northwest Ohio or St. Ignatius Building Fund. The family would like to thank the staff at Orchard Villa and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their compassionate care to Donna in her final days.
