Donald Schuller

Donald “Don” Schuller, age 92, of Curtice, Ohio, and formerly of New Hudson, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Landings of Oregon, surrounded by his family. He was born on May 9, 1932, in New Bavaria, Ohio, to Arthur and Martha (Gilgenbaugh) Schuller.

Don worked as a machinist for AB Heller Screw Products in Detroit for over 40 years. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, and his love for aviation led him to earn his pilot’s license in 1970 and his aerobatic certification in 1971.

On September 15, 1956, Don married Josephine Mann. Together, they shared a life filled with love and family. In 1964, Don purchased a cottage on Lake Erie at Lakemont Landing, where he and his family created cherished memories over the past 60 years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing euchre, and chatting in the garage. Don was also an active member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, where he volunteered at church festivals and contributed to the community.

Donald is survived by his wife of 68 years, Josephine Schuller; daughters, Linda (Philip) Jakubowski, Marilyn (James Juracek) Schuller, and Nancy (David) Downes; grandchildren, Andrew (Stefani) Jakubowski, Katelyn (Dylan) Neal, and Corey (Jessica) Downes; great-granddaughter, Daphni Jakubowski; and a great-grandson on the way. He is also survived by his siblings, Ruth Schuller, Lenora Kaufman, Sharon Dishong, and Arthur Schuller. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Melvin, Helen, Lillian, Norbert, Kenneth, and Martha Ann.

Family and friends may visit on Friday, December 27, 2024, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Martin, Ohio. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., followed by a luncheon in the church hall. Burial will take place at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Louis Helping Hands, Cherry Street Mission, or Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.
