Don E. Smith, 83, of Northwood, Oh. passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2013 at Hospice of NW Ohio, surrounded by his loving family. Don was born on June 4, 1930 in Toledo, OH. He was married to Nancy (Russell) Smith for 62 years and together they raised three children. Don worked for ConRail for 41 years, retiring in 1991. He took leave to serve his country in the US Army in 1951. Don was a member of Heritage Christian Church where he was active in the Senior’s group. Don also served on the Park and Recreation Board for Northwood, Northwood School Board, Planning Commission of Northwood and the Northwood Volunteer Fire Dept. for 10 years. In his spare time, Don loved doing jigsaw and cryptoquote puzzles, stamp and coin collecting, woodworking and fishing.
Surviving Don is his wife, Nancy; children, Donald Smith (Sandy), Cindy Finch (Richard, Patricia Taylor; grandchildren, Brian (Ali), Marc, Lisa, Rich Jr., Daniel, Heather, Jessica, Sara; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, James Smith of Coos Bay, Oregon.
Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S Wynn Rd., Oregon on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, from 2-8 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
