Deborah L. Dukeman

August 20, 1952 — May 3, 2021

Deborah L. Dukeman, known as Mama Duke, passed away peacefully, Monday, May 3, 2021 surrounded by her family.  She was born on August 20, 1952 in Toledo, Ohio to Joseph Carlo and Nancy Coon.  Deb retired from Civil Service work as a dispatcher for the City of Oregon after 31 years. Prior to being a dispatcher Deb was a bookkeeper/accountant for Wood County Human Services.  While there she did rape, suicide, and mental health counseling.  She also taught other people how to counsel various “victims.”  She was recognized for her work as Woman of the Year in 1987.

In her spare time, she enjoyed dancing, cooking, and gardening.  She also enjoyed collections of unique treasures.  Mama Duke was a great woman who was loved by many.  Her wit, wisdom, and sarcasm will forever be missed.

She is survived by her children, Joseph (Lisa) Carlo, Wendy Dukeman, Jamie (Edward) Hardin, and Brenda Dukeman; grandchildren, John Carlo, James, Jason, and Cierra Hardin, Breyanna Coutcher, Marie Hymore, Steven, Raquel, and Carlos Dukeman; 7 great-grandchildren; and brother, Mike (Marsha) Ettl.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Carlo and Nancy Shufeldt; husbands, Norman Edward Hoak and James Steven Dukeman, Jr; sister, Susan Ettl, and great-grandson, Lucciano.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Friday, May 7, 2021, from 12-4:00 p.m. where a time of sharing will take place at 4:00 p.m.  A wake will follow at Macomber Lodge.  Memorial contributions can be made to Humane Ohio or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
