David George Hampshire, 69, passed away September 10, 2018. He was born in Findlay, Ohio. Raised in Pemberville, Ohio, David attended Eastwood High School where he enjoyed playing his piccolo and flute in marching band. Graduating in 1966, from Eastwood, he briefly attended Defiance College where he learned photographic skills in the art department before enlisting in the United States Air Force. Volunteering for Vietnam, he served in the 600th Photographic Squadron based at Tan Son Nhut Air Base. Upon his return from Vietnam, he married Christine Papay in March of 1972 in Knob Noster, Missouri, while stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base.

As a young boy he built model cars and airplanes with his paternal grandmother, Frieda Hampshire. He continued this hobby throughout his lifetime. In the 1960's he participated in Soap Box Derby racing. Continuing his interest in both cars and airplanes, he visited as many related museums and shows as he possibly could.

David was employed full-time by Bowling Green State University in the Instructional Media Services Department from 1972 until retirement at the end of 2005, returning for a brief time as a part-time employee in 2006. During his employment at BGSU as a photographer and laboratory technician, he photographed materials for classroom and scientific research such as specimens and experimental scientific samples as well as art work for resumes, etc. His photographs were published in scientific journals and many other works. His people skills and production of over 37,000 slides per year, along with his adaptability in bringing the IMS photographic services into the digital age earned him several awards and honors throughout his career including the 'Il Magnifico award for service to the school of art from the Medici Circle in both 1999 and 2003, and both the university's BG Best Award and Spirit of BG Award in other years.

While at BGSU, David shared professional pointers in presentations to enable students and faculty to improve their own photographic skills. In that same vein, in retirement, David wrote articles with the aim of helping needle workers with their photography publishing "Choosing a Digital Camera for the Needle Artist" and "Do-It-Yourself Needle Art Photos", in the July 2007, and May 2010, issues of Needle Pointers, respectively.

In retirement, in addition to model building and photography, David enjoyed neighborhood walks, playing music, gardening and participating in Christ Dunberger American Legion's Color Guard to honor others who had served.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Eleanor and George Jr.; and brother, Dennis. He is survived by his wife, Christine, of 46 years; their son, Paul (Ryanne); and sister-in-law, Debbie Papay (Brian Carder).
