David James Carstensen

August 6, 1972 — January 11, 2015

David Carstensen, 42, beloved son of Jack and Barbara Carstensen has passed to his eternal home in heaven after a courageous fight with epilepsy. For the past six weeks his family and the loving and dedicated staff of UTMC provided around the clock compassionate and expert care that will never be forgotten. David impressed everyone who knew him with his strength, bravery, and wonderful sense of humor. He will be sorely missed by an innumerable host of caregivers, family, and friends. David was determined to ride his incumbent bicycle 5 miles a day or would do 2000 reps on his NuStep machine. He walked with a walker, played endless games of cards and checkers, and had an uncanny knack for always winning. David displayed great joy and appreciation for his favorite place: Home. We who knew him already miss him and his humorous remarks and will try to live by the standards he set. Those standards were to try hard everyday, and to appreciate home and the people around us. As a believer in Christ we are comforted to know that he is without pain and is enjoying a brand new body.

Important people in his life include his sister and brother-in-law, Lonny and Tammy Rivera; niece, Gabrielle; nephews, Jared and Alec; cousins, Tom Gruenwald and the Cogan family: Debbie Becky, Don and Lisa. Special care givers, Valerie, Mary and Chelsea who became like family. Loyal friends, Doug Patton and Todd Berger. David’s most prized possession was his diploma from Clay High School. Any tributes can be made to the Oregon Schools Foundation to be used to help students at Clay High School with special needs.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd, Oregon, on Friday, January 16, 2015, from 4-8 p.m. and continue after 9 a.m. on Saturday with the Funeral Services to begin at Noon in the funeral chapel. Burial will remain private.
