Ciril “Charles” Kozina, 92, resident of Northwood, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2013 at Parkcliffe at Wright Harvey House in Northwood.
Throughout his life, Charles was loyally devoted to his family, community and country. He took great pride in his service in the Army during World War II. After service to his country, he devoted the rest of his life to his community and family. He began serving his community as a charter member of the Ross Township Fire Station #1 where he served as Fire Chief for 10 years. Later, he served as a member of the Northwood Charter Commission which incorporated Ross Township into the Village of Northwood in 1963. In addition to helping to establish the Village of Northwood, Charles served a total of 5 terms on the Northwood City Council with two terms from 1962 to 1970 and three terms in 1991 to 2003. One of his proudest achievements was his work towards getting Northwood High School built in 1963. Charles was proud to have worked at the Toledo Blade for over 36 years where he worked as a printer and foreman. He was also lifetime member of the I.O.O.F serving as Scribe for the Genoa unit and was a member of the Toledo Typographical Union #63 for over 50 years.
When he wasn’t working to improve his community, Charles enjoyed traveling with his family with many driving trips to the western U.S., Myrtle Beach, and Daytona Beach. In recent years he enjoyed flying to Las Vegas with the World of Concrete bunch.
Charles was preceded in death by his father Stephan, mother Maria, brothers Steve, Frank, Pete, John, Joe, Paul, and Richard, and daughter-in-law Nina Kozina. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Ruth, daughter Karen (Larry), sons Ronald (Susan), and Randy, grandchildren Eric (Erin), Chris (Stephanie), Kari (Brett) Buynack, Stacy (Jim) Zilliox, sisters-in-laws Delores Shessler, DeEtta Kunz, and Beverly Kozina.
The family would like to thank Odyssey Hospice, The Labuhn Center at the Lutheran Home of Toledo, and Christian Home Care. As well as a very special thanks to the women of building three at Parkcliffe, especially Heather, for all you did.
The funeral services will be private with burial at Lake Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to Clay Center First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 131, Clay Center, Ohio 43408, or to a charity of the Donor’s choice.
