Charles J. Schroeder, 94, of Oregon, Ohio passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at the Hospice of Northwest Ohio-Toledo Center.  He was born on March 21, 1919 in Rocky Ridge, Ohio to Charles and Ethel (Fox) Schroeder.  Charles was a graduate of Oak Harbor High School and was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during, WWII.  Charles married his wife, Joyce Winters and started Schroeder Lumber Company in Oregon in 1951.  He was an accomplished wood worker and in his spare time built a 56’ x 16’ catamaran house boat which he sailed with his wife and family on the Great Lakes.

In his younger years he was very active in his community attending many council meetings.  Charles was a member of F.O.P. and a Deacon for the United Church of Christ.  He enjoyed collecting stamps and traveling in his motor home to Florida where he wintered in Kissimmee.

Charles is survived by his loving daughter, Sondra Boos; grandchildren:  Clint (Jennifer) Boos, Lynette Boos and Bret (Angela) Boos and his sisters, Joyce (Gene) Kontak, Faye Dietmeyer, Ruth Hetrick and Kathryn Harder.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 daughters and sister, Ellen Schroeder.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 from 2 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m.  Burial will take place at Limestone Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Salvation Army.
