Charles R. Clay, Sr., 86, of Toledo passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, March 8, 2016. He was born on July 13, 1929 in Greenup, KY to Lewis and Marie (Griffith) Clay and had honorably served our country in the U.S. Army during WWII. In 1991, he retired from Conrail after 44 years of service. Charles loved the outdoors, doing yardwork and gardening, walking and travelling.
He is survived by his son, Danny (Audrey) Clay; grandchildren, Danny, Jr. (Ashley), Tara (Josh), Elizabeth (Mark), Kristy (Malik), Maria (Doug) Jason, Justin and Jennifer; several great-grandchildren and siblings, Sam, Christine, Dorothy, Garnet, Robert and Ruby. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth (Leu) Clay; son, Charles, Jr.; grandson, Richard Akers and siblings, Leonard, Otis and Linda.
Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd, Oregon, on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 after 10 a.m. with the Funeral Service to begin at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Lake Twp. Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made directly to the family.
