Charles R. Buchanan, 60, of Toledo, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, March 31, 2016. He was born on February 25, 1956 to Charles S. “Bucky” and Caroline Buchanan and was a 1974 graduate of Waite High School. Throughout his working career, Chuck was very active in the unions: 10 years with Teamsters, United Steelworkers and a current member of UAW Local 12. He was currently an autoworker for Jeep. Chuck had a compassionate and giving spirit. He collected various fossils and artifacts that he found and shared them with science classes at Oakdale Elementary. He loved entertaining and visiting with neighborhood friends on Sunday nights around the “Burny Pit”. Chuck was an avid sports enthusiast and an OSU Buckeye fan.
Chuck is survived by his children, Jacob Buchanan (Misty) and Jinnelle (Clint) Jarrett; grandchild, Jordan Johnson; mother, Caroline; siblings, Debra Buchanan, Dennis Buchanan, Christine (Denny) Marchal; niece, Jodi (Eric) Grel; great-nephews, Evan and Isaiah Grel; and great-niece, Charlie Grel. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles and sister, Diane Buchanan.
Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd, Oregon, on Friday, April 8, 2016 from 2-8 p.m. with the Funeral Service to be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Burial will follow at Willow Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family while a fund is being established in his honor to benefit the science department at Oakdale.
