Bobbie Gene Matney

November 17, 1928 — December 29, 2016

Bobbie “Gene” Matney, 88, of Toledo, Ohio passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Lane Park of Oregon.  He was born on November 17, 1928 in Manitou, KY. to Robert and Ada Matney.  Gene served in the U.S. Army, during the Korean War.  He worked as a glass maker for L.O.F. for 30 years and as a farmer for 35 years.  Gene was a member of the East Toledo Baptist Church and a former founding member of Lemoyne Baptist Church.  In his spare time, he loved to attend bible study groups, fishing, and working on small engines and lawn mowers.

Gene is survived by his children:  Anita (Bill) Salay, Walter Matney, Glenda (John) Harper and Alan (Maria) Matney; grandchildren:  Paul (Jenni), Amy, Troy, Erin, Olivia and Bryce; great-grandchildren:  Joel, Ryder and Weston and his sisters, Dorothy Trost and Wilma Monday.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Matney and sister, Mary Dauer.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Thursday, January 5, 2017 from 2-6 p.m. where funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Burial will take place at New Suthard’s Cemetery in Madisonville, KY. on Saturday at 11 a.m.  Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Lane Park of Oregon or Gideon’s International.
