Betty Jane O’Connor, 89, formerly of Toledo and most recently St. Petersburg, FL. passed away on November 15, 2014 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg surrounded by her family. She was born on April 22, 1925 to Clarence A. and Edith M. Gartz in Toledo, OH. Betty was a graduate of Libbey High School and Robinwood Nursing School.
On February 7, 1948 she married William O’Connor and they raised their six children on Brighton Ave. in Toledo’s Old South End. In addition to being a full time mother and homemaker, she worked at Parkview Hospital as an obstetrics nurse for 30 years. She also worked part time as a nurse at Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital in Marathon, FL.
Betty is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Bill, and their six children: William, Jr. (Mary Pat), Kathleen MacPherson, Karen (Dennis) Graber, Richard (Cheryl), Daniel (Cary) and Jack (Andree). She is also survived by her sisters, Dolores Collins and Suzanne Gartz; her brother, Dwight Gartz. Betty was blessed with nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Clarence (Bud) Gartz.
The family will receive friends at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 212 N. Stadium Rd. Oregon, OH. 43616 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 18, 2014, followed directly by the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at both Manor Care Heartland Waterville, Arcadia Unit and Hospice of NW Ohio Perrysburg for the exceptional care of Betty. The family request in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the St. Ignatius Building Fund or Hospice of N.W. Ohio.
