Bertha Elena Hernandez

Bertha Elena Hernandez, age 28, passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones on June 5th, 2023. Bertha was born on July 30th, 1994 in Oregon, Ohio to Marco and Magdalena Hernandez. Bertha was a loving daughter, sister, Aunt, and friend to many. One of Bertha's greatest accomplishments was Graduating from Ross College as a Medical assistant in 2017. She went on to work and care for many patients at St. Vincent and St Charles Hospitals. Bertha cared for loved ones in her family growing up which prepared her for her career that she took such pride and joy in. Bertha came from a large family and loved spending time with them. If she wasn’t working at the hospital, she was helping run her parent’s family store “La Mexicana” or playing cards with her parents, siblings, nieces, and nephews. She was such a girly girl and loved getting her nails and hair done along with collecting purses. We will be reminded of her whenever we see the “Hello Kitty” character she loved. She loved to travel to her parents’ hometown of Zacapu Michoacan. Above all else, Bertha loved and adored her nieces and nephews. They were her world. Our hearts break for them as she was the most incredible Aunt to each one.

When you think of Bertha, remember the great memories of her and cherish life as it is. She is a reminder that it is precious and short. Even in her sickness, she put a smile on everyone’s face. She fought so hard and her family is forever thankful for the time they had with her until she could no longer fight.

Bertha is Survived by her Mother and Father, Marco and Magdalena Hernandez, Her Grandfather José Hernandez, Her siblings Magdalena (Eddie) Selvera, Juan (Jennifer) Hernandez, José (Jessica) Hernandez, Sandra (Juan) Sanchez, And Marco Hernandez. Her nieces and nephews, Daniel Selvera, Damian Selvera, José Angel Selvera, Julian Selvera, Gulianna Hernandez, Isabella Hernandez, Annalisa Hernandez, Gabriela Sanchez, Manuel Hernandez, and Yadhira Sanchez. Her beloved dog Chito, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Bertha was predeceased by her maternal grandparents Francisco and Bertha Sagrero. Her Paternal grandmother Maria Santos De Hernandez.

A visitation will be held at Freck Funeral Chapel Friday, June 9, 2023, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. A funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park.

Bertha’s family extends a heartfelt Thanks to the healthcare professionals at the University of Michigan Hospital for taking care of Bertha so well over the past eighteen months that she courageously fought Leukemia.

Bertha will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew her.
