Bernard Myers, age 87, of Curtice, Ohio passed peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, January 14. The son of Clemson and Lulu Myers, Bernard was born April 17, 1925 in Lambertville, MI.
He married Annette Keifer in 1954 at Faith Lutheran Church, Toledo, Ohio. They were to celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary next month. Annette, however, passed suddenly on January 10th. Bernard’s passing quickly followed, joining his lifelong partner. He and Annette had spent the past 59 years enjoying so many things together including square dancing, travel to visit with family and friends, taking Sunday drives, playing cards with friends, and their activities with the Masons and Eastern Stars. Their greatest joy together, however, came from their time spent with their children and grandchildren.
Bernard proudly served his country in the military and was a veteran of WWII. He graduated from the Toledo University with an engineering degree and spent many years working in the field of engineering.
Bernard was an avid gardener. For years, he tended not only his own garden, but large gardens for his mother, sisters, nieces and aunt. He gardened right up until his health no longer allowed him. He shared the fruits of his labor with all he knew. When not in his garden, Bernard could be found with a fishing pole in his hand, on Lake Erie, catching walleye and perch.
He was a member of the Genoa Masonic Lodge. Throughout the years, he had been active not only as a Mason, but also with the Genoa Chapter of Eastern Stars. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Williston, Ohio and Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Toledo, Ohio.
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Annette Myers, sisters, Ruth Myers and Esther Woodby and niece Sandra Woodby. Bernard is survived by daughter Kathy (Larry Torri) Myers of Sandy Springs, GA and Mark (Sherrie) Myers of Curtice, Ohio; four grandchildren, Christopher (fiancé Sarah) Myers, Ashley Myers, Sasha Torri and Olivia Torri; brother Kenneth (Mary) Myers, and many special nieces and nephews including Ruth Reed, Janice Rogers, Jerry Nichols and Bob Smith, all of whom provided him with love, support and comfort these past few months.
Friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd. Oregon, Ohio on Thursday, January 17, 2013 from 11a.m. until 1 p.m. where Masonic services will be held at 1p.m. with funeral services to follow at 1:30 p.m.  Burial will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.  The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that remembrances be made to Hospice of NW Ohio.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Parkcliff Community for the care and comfort given to Bernard the past few months. And, to the staff at St. Charles Hospital and Hospice of NW Ohio, our deepest gratitude for the support that was provided our family and gentleness and comfort that was provided to Bernard during his passing.
