ALLAN  DUANE. FITCH

Allan Duane Fitch, age 77, was called to heaven on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 after a lengthy illness. He was born on June 6, 1936 to Virgil and Geneva (Bovee) Fitch in Toledo but spent most of his younger years growing up in the Northwest Ohio area. After graduating from Rocky River High School, he worked 8 years for the Erie Lakawanna Railroad, 10 years as a bus driver for the Cleveland Transit System and also as a cab driver for Southwest Cab. He and his family relocated to the Toledo area in 1969 when he began working at the Libbey Owens Ford plant in Rossford. In addition he was a delivery person for David Hahn’s Kitchen Village and Cabinet Impressions.

Allan and his wife, Jane, celebrated 55 years of marriage in September. He was an avid bowler and loved sports. His favorite teams were the Boston Red Sox, Pittsburg Steelers and Michigan Wolverines. He  also enjoyed horse racing, playing cards, watching old westerns and Law & Order, and traveling to Las Vegas. One of his greatest joys was an annual vacation to White Birch Haven in Ontario, Canada, where he, his family, and friends spent many years fishing, swimming, and just having fun. Allan was a very generous, kind-hearted man who had a wonderful sense of humor and loved being around people. He loved watching his children and grandchildren playing sports and attending school functions. Throughout the family and neighborhood he was known as “Uncle Al – the Kiddies’ Pal”. Family meant the world to Allan, and we will all miss his jokes, smiles, wisdom and love. He has been, and always will be the heart and soul of our family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Geneva Fitch; sister, Dolores Atherton; brothers, James and Richard; son, Carl Fitch; and nephews, Thomas Atherton, John and Michael Fitch. Surviving are his wife, Jane; sisters-in-law, Betty Mirtich, Ruth Jindra, and Lorna Fitch; daughters, Peggy (Mark) Adams of Toledo, Laura Van Liere of Genoa, and Vicky Duvall of Oregon; sons, David (Kim) Fitch of Toledo and Eddie (Connie) Fitch of Toledo; 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit from 2-8 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2013 in the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S Wynn Rd., Oregon. The funeral service will begin in the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.  Burial will follow at Lake Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made directly to the family.
