Helen and Charles VanCamp of Oregon, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 7, 2023 from injuries sustained in an auto accident. They were married on May 28, 1994 and remained inseparable.
Helen was born on December 24, 1945 in Toledo, Ohio to Melvin and Betty Hardy. She earned an associate’s degree in Restaurant and Hotel Management. Helen worked at Jack’s Superette for 11 years as a cashier. In her spare time, Helen enjoyed sewing, fishing, archery, reading Science fiction books, and watching NASCAR.
Charles was born on June 20, 1938 in Toledo, Ohio to Lester and Lucille VanCamp. He worked for First Energy for 37 years, starting at the age of 18 in the coal garage and eventually becoming a lineman. Charles also worked at Fleet Pride for 10 years and was an usher at the Toledo Sports Arena for many years. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching, Ohio State, Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Guardians.
Helen is survived by her children, Robert (Debbie) Whitmore, Timothy (Kelly) Whitmore, Kathrine Wyland; grandchildren, Casey (Ryan), Christopher (Corrina), Curtis, Brandon (Chloe), Sarina, and Angel; great-grandchildren, Chensley, Salem, Oliver, Amelia, Natalee, Selene, Sawyer, Caleb, and Braedan; brothers, Jack (Jeannine) Hardy, and David (Patricia) Hardy; and sister, Judy (Danny) Weber. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; granddaughter, Kelsey Jane; brother, Melvin Hardy, and sister, Kyle Adams.
Charles is survived by his children; Kathleen Madden, Richard VanCamp, and Edward VanCamp; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Paul VanCamp, Diana (Jon) Steinmetz, Paula (Michael) Foster, and Richard Gottfried. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; and granddaughter, Kelsey Jane.
Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Thursday, July 13, 2023, from 11-2:00 p.m. where services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the Central Ohio Sheltie Rescue.
